RedReader: The Sane Way to Browse Reddit
I'm not a fan of 2025 Reddit. Since 2023, Reddit has been increasingly locking down the platform (with the culling of third-party apps amongst other controversies). They've also become very hostile to VPN users by not allowing said users to browse without logging in. With that said, I still browse Reddit with a decent user experience without logging in: RedReader.
What does using RedReader allow me to do?
Pretty much everything you can do with Reddit ordinarily except without the downsides I mentioned earlier. I like to really strip down the app by removing UI elements that can be configured for a minimalist experience.
Didn't You Just Say That Third-Party Apps Were Culled?
Yes, RedReader is a third-party app. From what I understand, they were granted an exemption during the culling of third-party apps for accessibility reasons which is why they continue to function (without dodgy APK mods).
What About The Desktop Experience?
Unfortunately, I don't have a great solution for that. I use RedLib instances when I really need to see something on Reddit but they're blocked by Reddit at least 30% of the time which makes it painful to do. Otherwise, old.reddit.com is still fairly functional...
