I Don't Buy Watermelons

I was sitting in the back of someone's car, yesterday, on the way back from a hike. We started to talk about how great a cold piece of watermelon would've been.

In that exact moment, I had the sudden realisation that I never buy watermelons. It's not that I don't like watermelons. I love a piece on a hot Australian summer day. The truth of the matter is that watermelons are just not very practical to purchase and carry if you don't travel with your vehicle constantly.

The reality, for me, is that I'm a fairly conservative person when it comes to usage of motor vehicles. I walk to my local shops for groceries. I'll even walk several kilometres to get some extra steps in. I try to do as much as I can without a car to minimise my environmental impact.

There have been many occasions where I was out and about and walked by a fruit and vegetable shop that had amazing prices on watermelons. However, I had to keep walking simply because I didn't have the capacity to carry it. Some people might suggest to buy a portion of a watermelon but then I end up thinking about the plastic covering that's needed to keep it fresh. I'd just rather not.

I haven't blogged in a while due to lacking any interesting topics. Somehow, a discussion on watermelons is what finally sparked my next blog post.
