The Bloated Web

It's 2025 and my internet connection is currently shaped. I went over a monthly data cap and I'm now facing the consequences.

I'm not sure what to write in this particular post. I think I just wanted to spend some time acknowledging the current moment and how barely anything loads because the web is full of crappy websites built on top of massively bloated frameworks, tracking scripts and attention-seeking content.

There are a small selection of websites that are still usable. Hacker News and Old Reddit (if limiting myself to text-based communities) are notable and unsurprising. Of course, Bear Blog itself is full of lightweight blogs that load in no time at all.

I should go find something else to do that isn't on a screen.
